ଓଡ଼ିଶାରେ ବିଜେପି ଟେକ ରଖି ପାରିବେ କେବଳ ମନମୋହନ !

In 1997, due to his close personal rapport with Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani, Naveen Patnaik was embraced by Congress as an opposition leader. With unwavering support, he helped build the newly formed BJD and by 2000, the “mentor government” took shape. Everyone knows the rest of that history. However, after Pyari Mahapatra joined BJD, the party was quickly strengthened to an extent that the BJP, then the strong “big brother,” found itself ousted from the center in 2009. Since then, the BJP has remained BJD’s prime political rival, consistently through to 2024. After the BJP came to power at the center in 2014, Naveen Patnaik, prioritizing state interests, maintained largely cordial relations with them. In 2019, upon Modi’s request, he even arranged a Rajya Sabha seat for Ashwini Vaishnaw, showing mutual cooperation. Naturally, by 2024, when discussions began for seat-sharing for Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, there was only one leader—Manmohan Samal—willing to run independently rather than form an alliance. His logic was solid: BJD’s popularity had dipped; there was a golden opportunity right in front of them. However, BJP and BJD leaders debated seat allocations until it became clear that if Samal went solo, BJP would win outright. Eventually, that happened, and to everyone’s surprise, BJP broke into the “fortified BJD-ruled Odisha.” Because of all these reasons, it's true that when Manmohan Samal looked at the outcomes and realities, he saw what he had genuinely achieved. Today, the lotus has blossomed in Odisha solely because of him—no doubt about that. It’s also true that poor strategic choices and arrogance by BJD over two to three years before the elections weakened them significantly—Samal saw those cracks early. If the BJP leadership had included Manmohan Samal in the allocation, today Naveen Patnaik’s BJD would not have lost power and become vulnerable. Despite BJP’s overwhelming success, they never gave him the recognition he deserved. After a massive victory, people widely believed he should’ve been made Chief Minister to secure election wins from independent candidates—but the leadership didn’t agree. He was never reinstated as party president either, and that disappointed many of his supporters, especially since others with little contribution started being discussed for that honor. While revenue reforms were initiated when Manmohan served as finance minister in Naveen’s government—like making government services genuinely public-oriented—misfortune struck, and after BJP came to power in 2009, he ended up back in opposition. By 2024, even his coalition prospects faded away; today BJP has achieved what seemed impossible: conquering the fortified BJD-ruled Odisha, thanks to Manmohan Samal’s unwavering resolve. People’s hopes and faith that Naveen Patnaik, with the right guidance—just like Mohan Majhi’s unassuming administration once did—can steer the state correctly remain intact. Mohan Majhi, who rose from Sarpanch to Chief Minister, has much to learn from Manmohan Samal. If Majhi humbly follows even a fraction of Samal’s wise counsel and dedication, he can firmly and safely lead Odisha forward. Manmohan proved himself in the recent election, showing he’s a unique crisis-management leader.— Bishwaraj Patnaik
