The death of the Fakir Mohan College student has sparked widespread protests across the state. A confrontation has erupted between the ruling party and the opposition. During BJD's attempt to gherao the Lok Seva Bhawan, a tense face-off occurred between the police and BJD at Lawyer PMG. The police resorted to water cannons and tear gas on BJD workers. Reports confirm that Pranab Prakash Das, Prithiranjan Ghadei, and Sulochana Deo were injured in the tear gas attack. Some protesters were forcefully detained by the police. The protesters are demanding that the state government provide not ₹20 lakh but ₹2 crore in compensation to the deceased student’s family. They also demand the resignation of Higher Education Minister Suraj Suryavanshi and Chief Minister Mohan Majhi. Additionally, BJD has called for a judicial inquiry into the incident and urged the government to apologize on the streets by kneeling and admitting its mistake.
