Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi receive a major setback. In a corruption case, a special court of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has sentenced Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to 17 years of rigorous imprisonment each. The court has also imposed a fine of 16.4 million on both; failure to pay the fine would lead to additional jail time. According to local media reports, in 2021, Imran Khan allegedly received an expensive Bulgari jewellery set as a gift from the Saudi Crown Prince. He is accused of understating its value and purchasing it from the government Toshakhana at a very low price. As per Pakistani rules, gifts received during foreign visits must be deposited in the treasury or Toshakhana, and anyone wishing to retain them must pay a fixed portion of the market value.
