In a tragic incident in Assam, the Silchar–New Delhi Rajdhani Express hit a herd of elephants, resulting in the death of eight elephants, while one elephant calf was injured. The accident occurred in Hojai district when the herd was crossing the railway track. The impact was so severe that five coaches and the engine of the train were derailed. Following the accident, several trains on this route have been cancelled, while others have had their routes diverted.
